Thirty kitchens are to be upgraded in the Sullenboy Park area of Cookstown as part of a £123,000 investment by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE).
Cookstown District Manager Ivan Armstrong said the scheme is good news for tenants and underscores NIHE's commitment to improve housing conditions throughout the entire district.
"During the scheme these tenants are having brand new modern kitchens fitted and they can select their kitchen units and worktops from a range of finishes," he said.
Electrical and plumbing installations are also being upgraded to ensure that there are dedicated sockets for washing machines, tumble dryers and dishwashers.
"Electrically wired smoke alarms and heat detectors are also being installed in those homes which currently do not have this facility," said Mr Armstrong.
The Housing Executive’s Egan contractor, PK Murphy Construction Ltd, is installing the new kitchens and consulting with the tenants on the details of the scheme.
Tersea Hagan from Sullenboy is one of the first tenants to have her new kitchen revamped.
"The workmen were lovely and consulted with me at all stages.
"It was great to be able to choose a kitchen from the various choices presented by PK Murphy and being able to buy my own tiles," she said.
"This meant that the Contractor was able to tile my kitchen and finish it to my taste and as a result I have a kitchen I can call my own."
Seana Hippsley, Customer Service Manager with PK Murphy, is impressed with the co-operation and feedback from tenants in area.
She said said: "PK Murphy is committed to achieving high quality and 100% satisfaction from all residents.
"This scheme is progressing brilliantly and feedback from residents and the Housing Executive has been very positive."
