Irish boiler manufacturers will issue a 'Boiler Passport' with every boiler manufactured within the territories of the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland from next month.

The boiler passport has been prepared in consultation with OFTEC, the leading trade body for the oil heating and cooking industry, and is designed to provide a means by which consumers will receive a properly installed and commissioned appliance that meets current Building Regulations.


David Blevings from OFTEC Ireland said: "Incorrect installation and failure to commission is frequently the cause of a failure of the boiler rather than an actual fault of the product which would be covered by warranty.

"It is therefore proposed that any future warranty will be conditional upon the correct installation of the boilers and the completion of a ‘Boiler Passport’."

Boiler passports will be available in all new boilers supplied by Firebird, Grant, Turkington and Warmflow from 1 September 2009 and these manufacturers will require the completion of the boiler passport and return of the commissioning certificate before a warranty is issued.

"Any failure to install the boiler correctly and non-completion of the boiler passport may invalidate the manufacturers’ warranty," added Mr Blevings.
