Theoretical plans for a €100,000 eco-friendly sustainable home have been brought forward by architects Mario Cucinella.

Discussing the 'Casa 100k' prototype, the firm said: "The project is an attempt to find an effective solution to the issues of affordable costs, low pollutant emissions and genuinely attractive housing."

For around €100,000 a buyer will be offered a timber frame constructed home with integrated solar PV features.


"The house has a bright, lively design that readily adapts to the needs of different residents and lifestyles, as well as producing energy through a series of passive and active strategies that make it an efficient bioclimatic machine," said a spokesman.

"Low construction costs have also been achieved by using a light, flexible form of prefabrication, including structural elements, technical systems and mobile components such as sliding, removable and bendable wall panels/partitions," he added.

The south facing side of the prototype building is extensively glazed, with prominent roof gardens and greeneries.

Each unit boasts 35 square metres of solar panelling, designed to power ground-source heat pumps. Rainwater harvesting also features.
