O'Keeffe Welcomes €900k Youghal School Extension

The new extension at Clonpriest National School in Youghal adds a "modern dimension to a school that's over 100 years old", according to Ireland's Eduction Minister Batt O'Keeffe.

Speaking at the official opening of the extension, Minister O'Keeffe said: "I'm delighted to open the new extension comprising two classrooms, administration office, principal's office, staff room and link corridor.

"The old school has also been revamped to the highest health and safety standards.


"My Department awarded the school over €940,000 in two grants to cover the cost of the whole project which was completed last September.

"I want to pay tribute to everyone involved in the project which adds a modern dimension to a school that dates since 1902.

"I've no doubt that future generations of teachers and students will benefit from today's investment which demonstrates the Government's commitment to the built environment in schools."

The Government is prioritising the schools capital programme. This year, it amounts to €610m - a record spend in any one year.

The announcements by Minister O'Keeffe so far in respect of large-scale projects moving to tender and construction will create over 30,000 school places.
