Over £2m For North Down Roads, Announces Murphy

North Down is set to benefit from a £2.3m roads investment, it has been revealed.

Making the announcement, Transport Minister Conor Murphy said the funding will focus on improving road safety in the area.

Works will take place in and around St Columbanus College, Bangor Central, as well as Ballymagee and Rathmore.

The local cycle network is being extended through additional cycle lane provision along the Newtownards Road and Belfast Road, said Mr Murphy.

Road Service's Deputy Divisional Roads Manager, Kevin Monaghan welcomed the planned investment in local transport and safety measures.

Other schemes which will be taken forward in North Down Borough this year include traffic signal modifications to facilitate a fully controlled right turn at the Balloo Road/ Bloomfield Road South junction and traffic calming schemes at Bryansburn Road, Brunswick Road, Groomsport Road and Seahill Road, Holywood.

Mr Monaghan highlighted some of the schemes already completed in 2008/2009.

These included roundabout provision at Six Road Ends, resurfacing, new kerbing and road drainage at Gransha Road and the erection of 190m of new safety barrier at Ballysallagh Road.
