Construction News Image
Over £3m is to be spent on road improvements in the Limavady area, it has been announced.

Roads Minister Conor Murphy works are proposed to improve the junction of Broad Road and Ringsend Road with the provision of a full standard right turning facility.

As well as improvements to the visibility at the junction, the Broad Road will also have minor realignment improvements.

"The provision of a footway is also proposed on the Drumsurn Road, Drumsurn between Fir Avenue and Beech Road. The scheme will also significantly improve the sight visibility lines for traffic exiting Beech Road on to Drumsurn Road," he said.

The Minister said he welcomed the recent announcement on the preferred route for the A6 dualling between Derry and Dungiven, and the proposed A2 Ballykelly Bypass where an announcement on the preferred route is planned by early 2010.

Road Service's Principal Engineer, Deidre Mackle, also highlighted some of the schemes that were completed in 2008/09.

These included the Baranailt Road Bridge replacement and carriageway realignment at Drumacarney Bridge, which was nearing completion; the provision of a full right turning lane at the junction of Ballyquin Road and Ballyavelin Road, which included the provision of a new bus lay-by, shelter and footway links to Ardgarvan cottages.

As well as the introduction of traffic calming measures, such as junction platforms, speed cushions and flat top road humps at Gortgare, Greysteel.
