Haughey Opens Artane School Garden Scheme

Junior Education Minister Seán Haughey has opened the new peace garden in St. Brendan's Boys' National School on McAuley Road, Artane.

Funding for the construction of the garden was provided by the Department of Education and Science's School Completion Programme and a number of local business interests.

The garden is one of a number of projects currently being rolled out in the school as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations.


Speaking at the opening, Minister Haughey said: "St. Brendan's is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. This is a very important milestone for any school.

"As part of the celebrations, the new peace garden project was initiated.

"Pupils here at St. Brendan's played a full role in the construction of this innovative garden, developing many skills as they went along.

"This garden will make an excellent facility to encourage the pupils to reflect, to think and to listen.

"In building the garden they had to plan as a team, to collaborate, to build, to review and to evaluate their work.

"These are skills that would stand the pupils in great stead in the future," added Minister Haughey.
