South Dublin Reports On Decade Of Development

South Dublin County Council has just issued a report on the ten year Tallaght Integrated Area Plan, one of two urban renewal schemes that has operated in the county over the last decade.

The Tallaght report provided details on the €0.7bn worth of development projects were completed in the designated areas.

A mechanism to deliver the agreed vision of the town centre area was also published.

This included new streets, people intensive uses, new public realm and a strong residential presence in the town centre.


The urban renewal scheme has generated over €11.5m, which will be expended into the disadvantaged neighbourhoods on Community Infrastructure and Community Projects, according to the report.

This is in addition to a new €9m Arts Centre in Tallaght town centre.

According to the report, the area plan has engendered strong links between site developers and the Tallaght Local Employment Service Network.

A council spokeswoman said: "The main aim of the area plan was to ensure that the urban renewal scheme would address the physical, economic, social and environmental regeneration of Tallaght town centre and the disadvantaged West Tallaght residential neighbourhoods.

"It has allowed South Dublin County Council and its partners in the local development, business, statutory and community sectors to realise the vision for the areas with the benefit of incentives and to do so in an innovative manner."
