Sligo Road Realignment Works Announced

Construction News Image
Works have been scheduled for the Sligo R284 realignment scheme.

The construction works will begin at the end of this month and run until mid-July.

Drumiskabole, Union and Ballydawley are the main townlands expected to benefit from the project.

Sligo County Council has given notice of its intentions to close the regional road to traffic, in order to facilitate the works.

The section of the R284 regional road that is closed is from the junction of the R284 and local road L36033 in Drumiskabole to a point 650m south of the junction of the R284 and local road L3604 (Ballisodare road) in Ballydawley.

Local access will be provided to residents/landowners but not to 'through traffic', said a spokesman.

The period of closure is from Monday 27 April 2009 to Friday 17 July, inclusive.

The alternative route from Sligo to Ballygawley will be via the National Primary Road N4 to Collooney and via Regional Road R290 to Ballygawley.

"Persons wishing to use the walkways through Union Wood will be able to access the walkways via the Ballisodare road (local road L3604)," added the council spokesman.
