Key Wexford Bypass Projects To Progress

A predicted cut in government spending will not stall two key bypass projects in Co Wexford, it has been claimed.

There were fears that a state suspension on roads infrastructural spending would affect the region, but works on the New Ross and Enniscorthy bypasses will go ahead, according to the county manager.

However, six other road building schemes, worth billions of Euro, do remain in the balance.


Despite work being sanctioned at New Ross and Enniscorthy, officials have said schemes on the N25 will not go ahead unless further approval is given by the Department of Finance.

The N25 between New Ross and the Cork Southern Ring are said to be affected by the impending decision.

The instruction was issued to the National Roads Authority late last month.

"The position of New Ross and Enniscorthy bypasses is that they are not altered at all," said County Manager Eddie Breen.

"This has no effect on the status of either of these projects. All projects at the moment have to get approval from the Department of Finance."
