Irish Energy Minister Eamon Ryan and Rural Affairs Minister Éamon Ó Cuív have announced plans to hold talks with community representatives Pobal Chill Chomáin and Pobal le Chéile and the Royal Dutch Shell in Dublin tomorrow.

The meeting, which will take place in the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, will be attended by both Ministers and will be chaired by Joe Brosnan.


The aim of this meeting is to try to resolve issues in relation to the Corrib gas project.

A spokesman for the department said: "The ministers hope that all parties will enter the talks in a positive and open manner, have agreed that the meeting will be conducted in an even-handed way and that it will have an open agenda with no predetermined outcome."

Late last year an initiative, headed up by Mr Ryan and Mr Ó Cuív, was tasked will looking at the suspension of plans to lay the controversial off shore pipeline.

Work on building a multi-million euro gas refinery site at Bellanaboy in north Mayo is still ongoing, but has been marred by objections from locals - expressing fears over health.
