Manor House Development Works Discussed

Construction News Image
The pace at which a Carlow development is being built has been described as a "thundering disgrace" by a local councillor.

Manor House in Bagenstown has been the subject of much debate within Town Hall.

Councillors have now been told by the developer that work will recommence on the site shortly.

It is believed work on the outer shell of the building will be undertaken as well as roofing improvements and work on the structure's facade.

Town Manager Bernie O'Brien said that when planning is granted the developer has five years to complete the work.

This means legally the Manor House doesn't have to be completed until January 2010.

An outraged councillor Paddy Kiely, said situation was a "thundering disgrace", which has left a black hole in the centre of Bagenalstown.

"It is a health and safety issue. The protection around it is torn completely on one side of the building," he said.

Mr Kiely described the site as a "complete dump".

"We've heard it time and time again from him, I don't believe he's going to do anything. He'll put a roof on it and windows and then walk away," claimed the councillor.

Councillor Margaret Cushen also raised concerns about the lack of lighting around the site.
