The green light for a one billion euro shopping development in Swords will see the outlet become a "major regional centre", it has been claimed.
Planning permission has been granted for the third phase of the scheme at Pavilions Shopping Centre, which has been touted as a major step forward for a significant town regeneration project, according to developer Chartered Land.
The developer has molded its plans to meet Fingal County Council's framework for a sustainable new city, expected to be inhabited by over 100,000 people.
Planner hope the city will offer improved shopping facilities, as well as strong commercial, cultural and social amenities.
Expansion plans at the shopping complex were bolstered by increased visitor figures to the area. Pavilions is set to house a host of new retail outlets including Mango, EyeCare and Marco Polo.
Both Marks & Spencer and House of Fraser have confirmed heads of terms to open department stores in the third phase.
Chief Executive of Fingal Dubline Chamber, Tony Lambert, has welcomed the move, which he said will bring a "very strong focus" to the area.
"The chamber very much welcomes the granting of planning permission for phase three of the Pavilions Shopping Centre," Mr Lambert said.
"This will instill great confidence in Swords and in the Fingal region as a major source for shopping and investment. Confidence is the main ingredient necessary for the future,
"This is a major component of the masterplan for Swords and will give further confidence for the construction of Metro North," he added.
