€1.5m For Clare Housing Scheme

Almost €1.5m has been allocated to a voluntary housing project in Creggaun na Hilla, Clarecastle, it has been revealed.

The funding has been welcomed by local representative, among them Clare TD Tony Killeen.

Mr Killeen said the money would see the provision of twelve units of accommodation under the Department of the Environment’s Capital Assistance Scheme for voluntary housing projects.

"The units will be provided by Anvers Housing Association in cooperation with Clare County Council," he said.


"I would like to praise every voluntary housing organisations for the active role they are playing, in co-operation with housing authorities, in the provision of accommodation for the homeless, disadvantaged, people with disabilities, elderly persons and elderly returning emigrants eligible for accommodation under the scheme."

Housing Minister Michael Finneran unveiled the funding proposals late last week.

The Clarecastle project is one of 26 new voluntary and co-operative housing projects and five Remedial Works Schemes to be allocated funding nationally this year.

Mr Killeen said: "The €77m funding for capital funded projects will provide over 380 units of social housing accommodation over the next three years.

"Of these almost 180 special needs units will be provided under the Capital Assistance Scheme and the balance of over 200 family type units will be provided under the Capital Loan & Subsidy Scheme," he added.
