West Belfast Homes Get £2m Facelift

Construction News Image
Renovations to social houses in west Belfast - costing almost £2m - have been officially unveiled.

The work, carried out by the Housing Executive at the Rossnareen Road and Culmore Gardens area of Upper Andersonstown, included improvements to 50 maisonettes and four flats.

The four blocks of properties, built in the 1960s, were refurbished with new pitched roofs and associated guttering, along with new uPVC double glazed windows and new front and back doors.

The exterior of the blocks were rendered and timber pitched canopies provided to front doors of ground floor maisonettes.

Walls, fences, gates and railings in the area were also upgraded.

The interior of the properties also got a makeover, with the replacement of all internal doors and the upgrading or replacement as necessary of central heating systems.

Electric and plumbing installations were also upgraded to accommodate the brand new kitchens and bathrooms installed as part of the scheme.

Gary Ballantyne, West Belfast District Manager, said: "This work represents a significant investment by the Housing Executive and underpins our continuing commitment to tenants in west Belfast. The improvements carried out will ensure that residents are able to enjoy life to the full in a secure and private environment and in homes that are both modern and attractive.

Gerry Meehan from the Upper Andersonstown Community Forum added: "We worked closely with the District Office in the development of this scheme so it’s good to see at first hand the difference the improvements have made.

"The Upper Andersonstown area remains a very popular place to live and this investment by the Housing Executive will ensure that it remains so in years to come."
