RICS Urges Worthy NI Projects To Vie For Awards

Ulster building firms have been urged to emulate the success of two internationally acclaimed local projects by competing for a top industry award.

Previously winner of the RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) Awards have included Belfast's Orchard Building and Omagh’s Strule Arts Centre, now the institute's Northern Ireland chairman has called on more local projects to participate.

John Davidson is certain there are a number of recently completed projects in the province worthy of merit.

He said: "The RICS awards are special as they celebrate those who make a real difference with buildings or natural environment schemes.

"Winning projects have to show all-round excellence, great value for money, and a commitment to sustainability.

"Strule Arts Centre and the Orchard Building displayed all of these characteristics and are truly excellent schemes."

The RICS Northern Ireland Awards will present prizes to development projects that excel in four categories - Regeneration, Sustainability, Building Conservation and Community Benefit.

The deadline for entries is January 23, 2009. Entry forms from www.rics.org/awards, by emailing ricsawards@spada.co.uk or phoning 020 7269 1430.
