Following on from yesterday's Executive announcement of a massive cash injection for Belfast Titanic Quarter, it has been revealed high performance tilt and turn hardware from Siegenia-Aubi will be used to help create part of the waterfront development.
Some of the most innovative and complex engineering projects, including the RMS Titanic, Olympic and SS Canberra, were launched from former shipbuilding land on the banks of Belfast's River Lagan.
Over the next two decades, this land will be transformed into the new Titanic Quarter.
The ambitious £5bn project will see the 185-acre site become a maritime quarter with a mile of waterside developments.
Work will be completed in phases to create a social and business district comprising apartments, hotels, restaurants, galleries, theatres, parklands and water sports, all within easy reach of Belfast city centre.
Over 1,000 sets of Siegenia-Aubi Favorit V hardware are being installed in an apartment block as part of phase one of the project.
Designed by Belfast-based architects, Robinson McIlwaine, the apartments offer a high quality specification throughout, from large entrance lobby areas, finished with limestone floors and feature walnut veneered panelling, to generous sized apartments with internal full height doors and a 'built in' entertainment system.
Planning permission for phase two of the development has recently been granted, and Siegenia-Aubi's Belfast-based regional sales manager, Robert Bell, is hopeful that the firm will maintain its involvement in the project:
"This is a very exciting project for us," he said.
"The plans for the development are very impressive, work is well underway on the first phase apartments and we're just waiting for confirmation of our involvement in future stages of this landmark scheme."
Stephen Miskelly from Chartered Architects, Robinson McIlwaine, said: "It is important that the specification of materials for the 'ARC' is of the highest quality. This development forms part of a 'gateway' to Titanic Quarter and therefore quality is a primary requirement."
Construction work on the apartments is on schedule, with the first completions anticipated in spring 2009.
The development is expected to create at least 25,000 new jobs over the next 15 years.
