Roads Minister Conor Murphy has welcomed the progress of a £6m investment in the Omagh Council area.

Meeting with the Roads Service and local councillors, the Minister provided an update on the A5 bualling project.

Mr Murphy said: "Work on the A5 Western Key Transport Corridor continues to make significant progress and last week I announced details of the preferred corridor.

"Roads Service will now be developing a number of route options within the preferred corridor and a series of public consultation events will be held in early 2009 to highlight these options and to invite comments.

"Other schemes which have been completed this financial year include resurfacing work at A5 Beltany Road at Mellon Country Inn, A505 Barony Road (near An Creagan), the Cavan Road near Dromore along with sightline improvements at B46 Creggan Road, B50 Omagh Drumquin road at Drumrawn Road and providing a missing link of footway at Oakland Road in Omagh."

Road Service’s Divisional Roads Manager, Pat Doherty welcomed the continued investment in local transport and safety measures in the Omagh District Council area. These include traffic calming schemes, measures to assist pedestrians and a programme of school travel and safety projects.

Mr Doherty said: "Other schemes that will be taken forward in the current financial year include the realignment of the A32 Omagh to Dromore road at Mullaghbane, plans to widen the road and provide a footway on the Farmhill Road in Omagh and improvements to the visibility at the junction of the B72 Meenacloy Road and Montiaghroe Road."

The Roads Service report also contained the draft capital programme for 2009-2011. New schemes include a cycle lane on the Dublin Road in Omagh and provision of new footways at Tullyneill Road in Sixmilecross and at Castlederg Road in Drumquin.
