£600k Investment To Fit 150 Derry Kitchens

Construction News Image
One hundred and fifty new kitchens have been fitted in Housing Executive houses in Derry, as part of a £600,000 investment project.

Homes in the Waterside area's Currynierin estate, which were originally built in the late 1970s and early 1980s, provide accommodation for families and singles.

As part of the scheme, the kitchen layout was improved to provide additional space for kitchen appliances.

Electrical and plumbing items were upgraded and electrically wired smoke alarms installed.

Commenting on the completion of the scheme, District Manager Avril McAllister said: "I am delighted that the tenants can now enjoy their new kitchens which they were able to choose from a selection of finishes.

"Maintaining our properties in good condition and up to current day standards is one of our key objectives.

"We aim to improve housing and living conditions and make a difference to people’s lives," she added.

Housing Executive tenant, Geraldine McKinney, from Currynierin, said she is delighted with her new kitchen, built by Dixons Contractors Ltd.

"The standard of workmanship was of a very high quality and the workmen kept everything clean and tidy. The worktops and new units are lovely and in general the new kitchen is a vast improvement on my old one," said Ms McKinney.
