A Royal Mail health and safety representative has been named best in Northern Ireland at an annual awards event.
Sean Doherty was named Health and Safety Representative of the year at ICTU seminar held to mark the European Week for Safety and Health.
Peter Bunting, Assistant General Secretary of the ICTU, said all health and safety representatives in workplaces across the economy play a crucial role in helping prevent work related injuries and illnesses.
He said: "These dedicated women and men are to be applauded for taking the time and making the effort to ensure that every workplace is fit for the purpose of production and not a potential crime scene.
"The opportunity to salute all health and safety representatives through this award to Sean Doherty is welcome and deserves to be celebrated."
Jim Keyes, Chief Executive of HSENI, said: "HSENI is delighted to be able to support this annual competition and award, now in its seventh year, in conjunction with NIC ICTU.
"HSENI firmly believes that effective workplace health and safety management requires a combination of leadership by management and strong employee engagement.
"The award very much recognises the important role that employee representatives can and do play in contributing to ensuring higher standards of health and safety in many workplaces.
"Sean Doherty has clearly demonstrated his personal contribution to health and safety within Royal Mail and is a very worthy winner of this year's award," he added.
