Wicklow Council Extends Decision On €100m Complex

Developer Harlequin Resorts has been given an extension by Wicklow County Council before a decision is made on its application for a €100 million tourism and recreational complex at Brittas Bay.

Part of the application proposals include a hotel with 142 bedroom suites, an 18-hole par 72 golf course and 12 holiday cottages - located at Ardanairy, to the north of the European Gold Club.

However, Wicklow County Council planners had a number of issues with the plans and have extended the time-line for their decision to 25 March 2009.


The main sticking points among the planners was the location of the proposed development, in an area of natural beauty, and the actual size of the scheme.

Questions remain over the suitability of local roads and the effect it could have on public safety, and the local water supply.

The Brittas Bay development is designed as a family friendly hotel complex with a state of-the-art health spa and fitness centre, swimming pool and club house.

Additional sports facilities include an indoor sports academy, an all-weather pitch suitable for a variety of sports and a golf teaching and training academy.

There will also be 12 holiday cottages for short-term letting.
