€700k For Clare Health Service Upgrades

Over €700,000 of government funding has been awarded for the improvement of health services in County Clare.

Two projects will share the cash, announced by the Communities Minister and Health Service Executive (HSE).

An Ghrianan in Bridgetown was granted €140,000 and Scariff Health Centre awarded €540,000.

Welcoming the announcement, local TD Tony Killeen said that the funds would help to develop, refurbish and improve health centres and facilities in each of the local communities involved.

He said: "The funds allocated to An Ghrianan, Brookside Lodge, Bridgetown, O’Brien’s Bridge, will be used to provide and install play equipment and an appropriate ground surface, as well as to refurbish the grounds.

"Meanwhile, it is intended that the funding provided to Scariff Health Centre will be used to provide a new extension, rewiring, roof repairs, refurbishment of grounds and a clinical room with storage."

Mr Killeen said he was confident that the new round of funding for health projects would make a significant contribution towards the health and well being of the CLÁR communities in O’Briensbridge and Scariff.

"The two projects that will receive funding through the new HSE CLÁR Programme are important to each of the local communities involved and support the Government’s commitment to improving quality of life in rural areas.

"The Programme is an excellent example of effective cross-departmental and cross agency co-operation that will help improve health services in rural areas," added the Junior Minister.
