A 'ground-breaking, self-sustained' north Belfast sports complex should be used as a model for all similar community projects, according one of the scheme's key advisors.
David Carson, a leading professor in marketing, said the £35m cross community scheme, spearheaded by IFA Premiership side Crusaders FC and junior side Newington FC, has set an example for all of Ireland.
The project aims to build a 4,200 seated stadium and sports educational village at preferred venues of the Grove Park in Belfast, or near the Valley Leisure Centre in Newtownabbey.
Professor Carson said the business model produced by the clubs offers an exciting way forward for sport.
"In considering what makes a successful stadium and successful sports business, we know what works - and know the mix of ingredients that are proven to be successful.
"The proposal developed by Crusaders in conjunction with Newington FC combines all those elements," Professor Carson said.
The plan is unique to Ireland in that the community sports stadium will also have commercial lettable space for businesses and other facilities.
The stadium then becomes a viable self-sustainable business as opposed to relying on match-day revenue, donations and fundraising for its upkeep.
"Other clubs and other communities will buy into this. These proposals should become the default format for sporting ventures throughout the country," said Professor Carson.
"It recognises the need for commercial income generation that will provide both sustainability and development of the sports complex and its partners.
"It satisfies on commercial viability."
The blueprint for the project outlines the prospect of having modern training facilities, a restaurant, bar, hospitality and conference suites, commercially let space for sports and educational provision, sports residential accommodation and hotel and Cineplex opportunities.
It is anticipated the venture will create 14 full-time and 50 part-time jobs within the stadium complex and a further 150 jobs created in other enterprises across the site.
Stephen Baxter, manager of Crusaders FC said: "Our vision is founded on two fundamentals. First, we have all the ingredients for a sound sports and leisure business. Second, good community relations, providing opportunities for all the community to join in as players, spectators, and providing a first-class leisure facility."
Newington FC Manager Eamon McCarthy said: "Our involvement in this project points the way to a brighter future - on the field and within our communities.
"The project will have ample space for other club sports - including GAA and rugby. This is a much needed vision which could not come a minute sooner."
