Future Secure For Belfast Firm

A Belfast-based company Electronic and Security Services (ESS) is set to more than treble its export turnover from £70,000 to £250,000.

Invest Northern Ireland has helped the company make the investment which is in addition to its core security business where ESS installs and maintains innovative queue management systems for use in post offices, banks and catalogue stores to direct customers to available cashiers.

These systems incorporate public announcements, using recorded voices with tailored local accents.

The company also provides a range of other electronic equipment including intruder alarms, fire alarms, CCTV, access control, electronic till systems, and intercom equipment for offices and apartment blocks.

Invest NI has provided ESS with a range of marketing support including assistance to visit markets outside Northern Ireland, attend trade shows and conduct market research.

Graham Davis, Invest NI's Director of Regional Economic Development, said: "ESS has recognised the importance of looking to markets outside Northern Ireland to fulfil its potential, and has adapted its marketing strategy accordingly.

"It is vital that local companies such as ESS seek to develop and export innovative products in order to increase their competitiveness and profitability."

Ken Armstrong, Managing Director of ESS, said: "We have worked closely with Invest NI to develop an even more focused marketing strategy, which has helped us to take a more structured approach and tailor our products and services to the specific needs of customers in external markets.

"Our branding has been improved and we have concentrated on enhancing our market positioning, as well as strengthening our organisational structure. Our products and services are now being promoted even more effectively as we have improved the company website and expanded our suite of advertising literature.

"One of the most significant recent successes for our company has been the increased sales of the queue management system which uses a voice with a local accent, specially customised for the geographic area in which it is being used. This innovation has proven to be particularly popular in retail outlets throughout the UK and Ireland."
