Firm Fined £35,000 For H&S Breach

A leading aircraft cabin interior products manufacturer, based in Northern Ireland, has been fined over £35,000 for failing to comply with Health and Safety regulations.

The Crown Court, sitting in Newry, found B/E Aerospace Limited liable for two breaches of legalisation, following an accident in July 2007.

The claim was brought by the NI Health and Safety Executive on behalf of a former employee, who was seriously injured after being crushed by a vacuum-forming machine.


Mr Black was a maintenance technician at the time of the incident and the court today fined the firm £35,000, plus £2000 in charges, after ruling there was a lack of a safe system of work and the lack of a suitable and sufficient risk assessment. B/E Aerospace pleaded guilty to both counts.

After the hearing Bryan Monson, Deputy Chief Executive with HSENI said: "We would remind companies of the need to ensure that they assess the risks of maintenance activities.

"They must ensure that the control measures identified in the risk assessment (safe system of work) are properly planned, implemented and maintained."

HSENI has said it is happy to provide advice to companies on machinery safety.
