Energy Audit Brings Clerys 'Significant Cost Savings'

Bord Gáis Energy Supply is to work with Clerys Department Store to implement energy efficiency and cost savings.

Clerys has always been proud of its long heritage as Ireland's oldest department store with a shop front on Dublin's O'Connell Street since 1853.

However, Clerys is now looking to the future with its eyes firmly fixed on improving energy efficiencies and reducing its carbon footprint.

As part of the €22 million refurbishment of its store which was completed in 2004, Clerys invested significant resources into making the store more energy efficient with the help of Bord Gáis Energy Supply, who have been supplying Clerys with electricity since 2002. Gary Griffen, of Bord Gáis worked closely with Clerys' Retail Facilities Manager, Stephen Keating, in an effort to highlight areas where Clerys could significantly reduce their energy consumption.

More recently, Clerys has completed a refurbishment on its main entrance incorporating a glass façade creating more light internally and greater visibility for customers looking into the store.

Clerys also re-launched the Cosmetics Hall, adding exciting new brands to enhance customer choice and also revamped the Jewellery Emporium to complete the overall look last year.

"Bord Gáis Energy Supply has worked very closely with us to make our store more sustainable. For Clerys, sustainability means exploiting all power conservation opportunities in the store: from the tills to the famous Clerys clock," Stephen Keating, Retail Facilities Manager said.

"Initially, Bord Gáis Energy Supply carried out a full energy usage audit on the entire building and worked with us on implementing an in-house energy efficiency programme which resulted in lower energy costs."
