Dublin City Council officials want to increase parking charges in high demand areas in a bid to reduce traffic congestion.
The council says a reduction in city congestion will enable works, for the Luas and Metro, to start more efficiently, next May.
Tomorrow the council's Transport Committee will be presented with a report, which states, that although the price hike is double the rate of inflation, it is necessary to combat rising traffic congestion in the city.

The report suggests the number of private vehicle entering the city centre road system is increasing annually, which comes after a long period of reductions.
According to the report 90% of the city's Yellow Zone parking bays are regularly occupied.
The number of motorists "cruising" for city parking spaces is increasing congestion, Executive Manager Tim O'Sullivan has suggested.
Mr O'Sullivan has proposed a yellow zone parking charge increase of 20 cent, bringing the hourly rate to €2.90.
Red zone areas could also see a 20 cent rise, with the hourly parking rate increasing to €2.40. Green areas would cost an additional 10 cent per hour, with the new rate being €1.60.
The orange and blue zones would remain unchanged.
The report says that the last increase was in August 2007 and only applied to the yellow and red zones.
