Public Meetings On New Architecture Policy

Construction News Image
A series of public meetings will be held across Ireland during the next fortnight to discuss policy on architecture.

Held by the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government and the Irish Architecture Foundation, the meetings will take place at eight locations between 29 May and 12 June.

Entitled 'Conversations about Architecture and the Built Environment', the two agencies hope to gauge views and opinions on built environment policy.

The Irish Architecture Foundation is a leading campaign organisation, which provides an outlet for those who believe urban design and architecture can improve life and work.

The foundation encourages innovation and engages as a steward of the built environment.

The foundation says it aims to "enable the public to understand, enjoy and discuss architecture", by "promoting and encourage innovation and high standards in contemporary architecture". It also believes in the importance of "making the general public more aware and better trained in appreciation of architectural, urban and landscape culture."

It is expected that a draft of the new policy on architecture will be ready by Autumn 2008.

Public meetings are scheduled for:

  • GMIT, Dublin Road, Galway (May 29th)
  • Museum of Treasures, Waterford (June 3rd)
  • Lewis Glucksman Gallery, Cork (June 4th)
  • Limerick City Gallery (June 5th)
  • The Dock, Carrick-on-Shannon (June 9th)
  • Athlone Civic Centre (June 10th)
  • Fingal County Hall, Swords (June 11th)
  • The Ark, Temple Bar, Dublin (June 12th)
