Leading Urban Planning Expert Joins UU

Leading UK urban planning expert Professor Greg Lloyd has been appointed Head of the School of the Built Environment at the University of Ulster.

Currently Professor of Planning at Liverpool University, he takes up his new post at the start of the next academic year.

He served as an Adviser to the House of Commons Scottish Affairs Committee in its study of the effectiveness of regional economic development agencies in Scotland. He was a member of the Scottish Executive's Cities Review (2001-2002), the Tayside Economic Forum (2002-2006), the Scottish Urban Regeneration Forum Academic Panel.

He is also a Member of the European Regional Committee of the Commonwealth Association of Surveying and Land Economy and the International Academic Group on Planning Law and Property Rights.

A native of Porthcawl, Wales, Professor Lloyd currently serves on the Scottish Government’s National Planning Framework Advisory Group, and is also Ministerial Independent Expert Adviser on the reform of the land use planning system in Northern Ireland.

Describing Professor Lloyd as a 'heavy hitter' in the sector, Professor Alastair Adair, Dean of the Faculty of Art, Design and the Built Environment, said: "Greg Lloyd brings a wide range of expertise in urban and spatial planning and the 'modernising planning' agenda which is so relevant to the economic development of Northern Ireland.

"We are delighted that he has chosen to join the successful team at the University of Ulster."
