Cork TD Christy O'Sullivan welcomed the news. He said: "I am pleased that 11 small public water and sewerage schemes will receive this funding, which should facilitate the development the water and sewerage schemes under the programme in small towns and villages within CLÁR areas.

"I will continue to lobby for further funding of this nature to ensure our water schemes are operating to the highest standard," he said.

€256,825 was allocated to the Mountrivers Group Sewerage Scheme near Doonbeg. The Minister of State and Clare, Tony Killeen welcomed the allocation and described it as an important contributory factor to the revitalisation of the rural West Clare townland.

"The allocation of €256,825 will enable a total value of works amounting to €356,868 to be carried out. The remaining amount will be paid by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government and by private contribution from the Group members," explained Minister Killeen.

"The allocation of funding for the improvement of vital infrastructure such as sewerage services enables individual housing developments to proceed," he said.
