A local firm has completed the fitting of what promises to be one of the most walked-on floors in Northern Ireland.
The commercial flooring arm of Martin Phillips Carpets fitted 4,000 sq m of commercial safety flooring at the new Ikea store at Holywood Exchange in Belfast. It won the contract to work on the iconic retailer's new Northern Ireland store ahead of competition from across the UK.
The new Ikea store, which covers an area equivilent to 5.5 football pitches, opened today. The 4,000 sq m of commercial safety flooring covers customer areas including the shop floor, self-service collection areas and reception.
Kenny Eagleson, Contracts Manager with Martin Phillips Carpets, said: "The new Ikea Belfast store, which is the company's largest selling space in the UK, promises to be hugely popular and the flooring fit-out therefore had to be completed to the highest possible standard.
"We won the contract as result of our considerable experience and worked on the project with a team of 14 over an eight-week period."
Mr Eagleson added: "This was an extremely prestigious contract for us as Ikea is such a major international brand and this was one of the most significant retail development projects ever undertaken in Northern Ireland."
Martin Phillips Carpets, which has its headquarters in Newtownards is a residential and commercial flooring supplier. It has supplied homes across the Northern Ireland with quality, stylish flooring solutions for 25 years through its network of retail stores and has a growing commercial contracts division.
Martin Phillips Carpets was sub-contracted to work on the Ikea store by Fitout UK.
