The Board of Bord Gáis has today announced the appointment of John Mullins as Chief Executive Officer. Mr Mullins, who joins Bord Gáis from Bioverda, will take up his position in early December.
Commenting on the appointment, Ed O’Connell, Chairman of Bord Gáis, said: "The Board of Bord Gáis is delighted to announce the appointment of John Mullins as its next Chief Executive. John has extensive experience in the energy sector and joins Bord Gáis at a time when the company is embarking on a critical stage of its development.
“In our core gas business, Bord Gáis has successfully enabled the full opening of the market in July 2007; completed reviews with the Commission for Energy Regulation on the revenue control formulae for gas transportation and energy supply for the five years to 2012; and we plan to bring gas to 17 more towns over the next three years, with the first of these scheduled to be connected before the end of the year.
"Construction has just started on our €400 million gas-fired power plant in Whitegate, Co Cork and we are looking to build on our eight per cent share of the electricity retail market over the coming years."
John Mullins, aged 39, is a native of Cork City and holds both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Engineering from University College Cork and an MBA from the Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business.
Prior to his current role as Chief Executive with Bioverda, John worked as a Business Development Director at Greenstar, NTR’s waste management company.
"Given the strong focus now on the energy sector, I believe the next few years will provide Bord Gáis with many opportunities, as well as challenges," Mr Mullins said. "I look forward to working with the Board, management, staff and stakeholders of Bord Gáis to build on the solid foundation and achievements to date and to lead the business through its next stage of growth and development."
