Sligo-based Cell Energy Ireland received the best new product award at the Irish Sustainable Building Show at the RDS in Dublin.
The award was presented at Ireland's first ever Carbon Neutral Exhibition where Cell Energy Ireland competed against a vast range of sustainable products from all over the world.
Company Director Alex Byrne secured the prestigious award following his research and introduction to the Irish market of the Swift Micro Turbine.
According to Mr Byrne, the Swift Micro Turbine differs from others on the market. "It is ultra silent and is designed specifically so it to be fixed to a building," he said.
"It has a rated power output of 1.5kw which supplies 2000kwh annually at a wind speed of 5 metres per second, with a CO2 displacement of 1.4 tonnes, at higher speeds substantially higher levels are achieved.
"This turbine’s unique design in turbulent air flows and silent mast mounting technology eliminates unwanted vibration which makes the swift turbine ideally suited for domestic urban installation and commercial use compared to traditional turbines."
Along with the wind turbine, Mr Byrne has also introduced photovoltaic panels which are virtually applicable to every type of building.
However, he was keen to stress that there is much more to Cell Energy Ireland than selling renewable energy.
"We are leading consultants in renewable energy, providing advice on a wide range of renewable energies, C02 reductions and energy efficiency programmes," said Mr Byrne.
