€7M Trade Centre To Open In Mayo

East Mayo is to receive a huge boost to its economy in the form of a new world-class trade centre.

The Cairn International Trade Centre, which will be based in Kiltimagh, which will comprise 32,000 square feet of top drawer office space, will bring 150 jobs to the town.

The ambitious project is hoped to benefit from the growing push to equally distribute new developments throughout the country, inspired by the Irish governments de-centralisation policy for the public sector.


Building is due to begin in the next few weeks and opening is scheduled for the beginning of 2009. The Centre is envisioned to contain 15 office suites in the region of 1,000 to 3,000 square feet each and each will fitted with air conditioning, advanced broadband access, underground car parking and futuristic styling.

The contract was awarded to JJ Rhattigan & Co by local IRD Kiltimagh Ltd. Brian Mooney, Chairman of IRD said: “To have 150 extra people in white collar jobs in the area will help to secure the future of Kiltimagh and the surrounding towns for generations to come.”

The project is seen as a excellent opportunity galvanising attempts to retain the young and educated of East Mayo, and to curb the onset of ‘brain drain’, currently a major issue in rural parts of Ireland, where many graduates are seeking employment in the larger cities.
