Corus Double Success In Transport Awards

Corus the international steel company based in Lisburn, Ireland have had a double success in the recent prestigious Irish transport awards.

Corus reached the final as one of only three companies to achieve a place in the Export & Freight Transport & Logistics Awards shortlist in the category of ‘Own Account Operator’. This category is for companies who distribute their own product from Ireland.

In addition, one of the Corus drivers based at the Lisburn site, Steven Baxter, was highly commended in the category Driver of the Year, another great result for the company.

Corus has a fleet of ten distinctive silver liveried trucks and up to 16 sub-contracted vehicles and employs a team of experienced and highly qualified drivers, of which the longest serving driver, a Lisburn man, Dessie Baxter, Steven’s father, has worked 38 years with the company.

Martin Connolly, transport manager for Corus in Ireland, said: "It was great to be recognised though these awards. We were supported by a number of customers, who were pleased enough with our transport service and drivers to be able to recommend us for these categories and have contributed to us being in the final three. We were honoured to be nominated for the award and pleased to reach the final three. I am delighted for Steven that his driving skills have been recognised in this way."

He added: "We have invested a lot of time and money to really improve our transport systems and to ensure that we operate a safe and courteous network, with highly experienced drivers. Two years ago, we replaced our fleet with new Erf tractor units, all equipped with the latest of safety equipment and technology,” he added. We are also constantly updating our trailer fleet to the highest specification."
