Tenders are currently being sought for improvements works to be carried out at two Garda Stations in County Clare.
Minister of State and Clare TD, Tony Killeen, who received the confirmation from the Office of Public Works (OPW), said it was proposing to carry out alterations and additions to Newmarket-on-Fergus and Doonbeg Garda Stations.
"I very much welcome the announcement that refurbishment works will shortly commence at the Garda Stations in Doonbeg and Newmarket-on-Fergus. It is very important that members of An Garda Síochana are in a position to work in modern facilities," the Minister said.
"A great deal of work has been done in recent years to upgrade existing and build new Garda Stations throughout the country. Rank and file members of An Garda Síochana are now befitting from working in fully equipped and modern facilities.
Describing the proposed works at Newmarket-on-Fergus Garda Station, the Minister continued: "The works will include the replacement of the existing front and rear boundary walls, construction of new perimeter front and rear boundary wall, realignment of the existing vehicular entrances and provision of new vehicular access gates. The proposed works also include the provision of visitor parking to the front of the building and private parking to the rear."
Regarding Doonbeg Garda Station, Minister Killeen stated: "The proposed scheme includes the replacement of the existing windows and doors to the Garda Station and residential quarters. Other works include the demolition of the existing and construction of a new front boundary wall and rear part wall, the realignment of the existing windows and doors to the Garda Station and residential quarters. Other works include the demolition of the existing vehicular entrance, and the provision of new pedestrian gates and vehicular access gates."
