Northern Ireland construction firm Farrans is currently delivering an extensive programme of stakeholder engagement and social value whilst actively working on site for a significant Northumbrian Water project.
Farrans are progressing works on Project Pipeline: County Durham and Tees Valley which involves the construction of around 57km of new pipes connecting Lartington Water Treatment Works with around 200,000 customers across the south of the north east of England.
During these works, so far, Farrans have delivered 14 employability and careers events and engaged with over 700 students in the area with its skills workshops.
Some of Farrans' recent highlights have included:
• Donating a cheque for £250 to Ingleton Primary school which they are going to put towards buying Forest School equipment, so that lessons can be delivered outside. This is a method that is known to improve the effectiveness of teaching and attainment levels.
• Delivering a STEM workshop at Witton-le-Wear Primary School in County Durham. Twenty pupils from Years 5 and 6 took part in a Zombie Apocalypse themed challenge which involved building a water filter. They needed to use skills including problem solving, team work, creativity, time management and resilience.
• Returned to take part in a careers fair at Witton-le-Wear Primary School and met with students and parents to advise on employment opportunities in the construction and civil engineering sector.
• Visited Cotherstone Primary School in Durham and delivered a STEM workshop to 30 pupils from this school and Bowes Primary School.
This extensive programme of stakeholder engagement and social value will have a positive and long-lasting societal impact.
