Northern Ireland-based Farrans Construction's multi-million pound Gull Wing project scooped major honours at this year's Bridges Awards in the CBS Arena, Coventry, last night (March 12).

Dubbed the 'Battle of the Bridges', two Farrans' constructed bridges were up against each other in the same Bridge Design and Construction Award category, with the Herring Bridge project completed in February 2024 by BAM Farrans JV. Gull Wing was also shortlisted in the Bridges Ethos Award.


Comments regarding Gull Wing from the judges included: "A challenging engineering design only achieved by collaboration with all parties, a real showpiece of engineering," and "a great example of a challenging project that has embraced the opportunities to innovate and create a landmark bridge."

Farrans Construction was the main contractor for the Gull Wing, whilst the professional team was made up of leading designer ARUP and commissioning authority Suffolk County Council.

Key firms in the project included Moxon Architects, BAM, Eadon, Oilgear and Victor Buyck Steel Construction.
