The project involves an upgrade of the existing treatment systems, including upgrades to the coagulation, clarification and filtration processes.
It also includes the installation of new chambers and mixers; new sludge storage and treatment facilities; and a new generator. The existing electrical panels at the plant are also being replaced.

The project is due for completion next year and will ensure a secure and reliable water supply to approximately 12,000 customers on the Ardfinnan Regional Water Supply serving the communities of Ardfinnan, Newcastle, Cahir and the surrounding areas.
The works, which are being carried out by Glanua on Uisce Éireann's behalf, are continuing on-site to upgrade the plant's treatment processes with commissioning of the new plant expected towards the end of 2025.

"The upgrade will provide a safer more reliable water supply for the people of Ardfinnan, Newcastle, Cahir as well as improving the drinking water quality and ensuring compliance with current drinking water quality regulations."
