Works have commenced to replace 4km of aged watermains in Cappamore, County Limerick, Uisce Éireann has announced.
Ward and Burke Construction Ltd is carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann with the project expected to be complete by April 2025.
The watermains, which are prone to bursts, will be replaced as part of Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme. The replacement will secure a reliable water supply for users.
Brian McCarthy, Uisce Éireann Programme Manager, said: "This project will provide numerous benefits for our customers by strengthening and reinforcing the water network, eliminating existing leaks and reducing the instances of bursts.
"Replacing these old watermains that are in poor condition will ensure a more sustainable water supply and significantly reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground.
"We would like to thank the local community for their cooperation and patience while we carry out these essential works in the area."
The section of works will take place along the L-1127 from Bilbao National School, onto the L-1130 towards Cappamore. The works will end before the crossroads onto the R505.
Traffic management will be in place at this time, in the form of traffic lights and a future road closure. Road closure details will be communicated locally closer to the time.
Local and emergency traffic will always be maintained. Areas of work will be limited to short sections to minimise impact and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned interruptions.
