Review Of Defective Concrete Blocks Scheme Welcomed By Fine Gael

Homeowners who have been impacted by construction issues, including defective concrete blocks, will be supported by Fine Gael, their Donegal general election candidates have stated.

The candidates, Senator Nikki Bradley and John McNulty, have also said they are committed to improving building standards for future developments and have welcomed the proposal of a comprehensive review of the Defective Concrete Blocks scheme, which would happen within 6 months if they are returned to government.

Senator Nikki Bradley said: "Since I became a Senator earlier this year I have made it clear that I wanted to see improvements to the scheme, and this is something I want to see introduced, so I'm pleased to see this continued commitment from An Taoiseach Simon Harris and my Fine Gael colleagues.


"Fine Gael is also planning for the future by creating an independent building standards regulator to enforce high standards in construction quality and safety, and preventing similar issues from arising in the future.

"I see every day the impact the defective blocks have had on people across Donegal, and the stress and pressure people are under because of this. It's so important that we meet individuals and families impacted to listen to their stories so that we take the right steps to address this issue."

John McNulty added: "I am delighted to see confirmation today that Fine Gael will carry out a review of the Defective Concrete Blocks Scheme so that individuals and families can be to the fore of decisions made.

"I have been clear that addressing the impact of defective blocks is a key priority for me in this campaign and into the future. I have seen the devastation this has caused, and know we are the party to address this."

He continued: "We are also going to reinforce the Apartment Defects Scheme. We will put this scheme on a statutory basis to provide support to owners of apartments with structural defects, ensuring assistance is accessible and reliable.

"The people of Donegal can be reassured that An Taoiseach Simon Harris and Fine Gael are committed to addressing the issue of defective concrete blocks for the people of the North West and that they will be to the fore of the conversation."
