Works To Replace 3km Of Kerry's Watermains To Commence

Construction News Image
Ward and Burke Construction Ltd will commence works on behalf of Uisce Éireann to tackle leakage problems in Castleisland, County Kerry.

Upon its expected completion date of April 2025, the project will see over 3km of aged and fragile watermains, which are prone to frequent bursts and leakage, replaced with new modern pipes.

The works will take place along the L-2032, L-2030 & L-10693 from Castleview Road to Ballymacadam Reservoir.

Traffic Management will be in place throughout the project in the form of traffic lights and flagmen. Local and emergency traffic will be maintained at all times.

Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, Jack Cronin, said: "Castleisland has been prioritised as part of Uisce Éireann's national Leakage Reduction Programme which is delivering a more secure and reliable water supply to communities right across Ireland.

"Replacing these old watermains that are in poor condition will strengthen and reinforce the water network significantly reducing the instances of bursts and the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground.

"We would like to thank the local community for their cooperation and patience while we carry out these essential works in the area."

The works may involve some short-term water interruptions and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours' notice prior to any planned disruption.

The works also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers' property boundaries and connecting it to the customer's water supply.

Where the existing service connections on the public side are lead these are being replaced.
