Clonmel Infrastructure Water Project Reaches 1,000-Metre Milestone

Construction News Image
Uisce Éireann’s multi-million-euro investment in Clonmel's water infrastructure has reached a significant milestone, with the first 1,000 metres of new water main now installed along the R689 Fethard Road.

The project, designed to enhance water supply security and quality for homes and businesses in Clonmel and surrounding areas, marks an essential step toward a safer and more resilient local water system.

The extensive works include upgrades to the Monroe Water Treatment Plant, the installation of 15 kilometres of new water mains, and enhancements to the Rathronan Pump Station. This infrastructure overhaul will connect the Monroe supply to the Clonmel North Reservoir and Poulavanogue network, improving water quality and enabling the removal of the Poulavanogue supply from the EPA's Remedial Action List.

Contracted by Uisce Éireann and executed by Shareridge, the project is expected to take 18 to 24 months to complete. Pipeline installation has begun along the R689 Fethard Road, with site investigations underway from Rathronan Cross to Giant’s Grave. To reduce disruptions, the work is being carried out in phases across multiple locations, including Rathronan L-3279, Clashaniska L-3280, Northview Close, Priory Park Road, Thomas Street, Dillon Street, and R688 Cashel Road. Traffic management systems will be in place, ensuring continuous access for local residents and emergency services.

Short-term water interruptions may be required during certain stages, with customers receiving a minimum of 48 hours’ notice before any planned service disruptions. Uisce Éireann will continue to update the community and notify affected stakeholders as the project progresses.
