Uisce Éireann's extensive water infrastructure upgrade in Clonmel has reached a major milestone with the installation of the first 1,000 meters of new water main along the R689 Fethard Road.
Part of a multi-million-euro investment, this project aims to strengthen the town's water supply and improve reliability for homes and businesses across Clonmel and surrounding areas.
The upgrade includes enhancements to the Monroe Water Treatment Plant (WTP), the installation of 15 kilometres of new water mains, and updates to the Rathronan Pump Station, which will link the Monroe supply to the Clonmel North Reservoir and Poulavanogue network. This work will mitigate water quality risks for customers relying on the Poulavanogue supply, allowing it to be removed from the EPA’s Remedial Action List.
Contracted to Shareridge, the project is expected to take 18 to 24 months to complete. Currently, pipeline installations continue along the R689, with site investigations underway from Rathronan Cross to Giant’s Grave. Once completed, this project will deliver a safer, more resilient water supply for the Clonmel community.
