€29m Watermain Project Complete To Secure North Dublin's Water Supply

Construction News Image
Uisce Éireann has completed a €29 million project to construct a new trunk watermain stretching from Ballycoolin Reservoir to Swords, a major infrastructure upgrade aimed at strengthening water security for over 350,000 people across North Dublin.

This newly completed pipeline can transport up to 90 million litres of water daily, ensuring a more resilient water supply for homes, businesses, hospitals, and key facilities like Dublin Airport.

The 7.5-kilometre pipeline is critical for supporting the growing demands of North Dublin’s expanding residential, institutional, and commercial sectors. By providing an additional water channel to the region, the project will help safeguard current and future developments in North Dublin and parts of Dublin City.

One of the project’s major achievements was its successful collaboration with private landowners, as more than 90% of the pipeline crossed agricultural land. Uisce Éireann expressed its gratitude to these landowners for their cooperation and support, which were instrumental in completing this vital infrastructure project.

William McKnight Infrastructure Delivery Lead of Uisce Éireann said: "A safe secure water supply is essential for businesses and communities in the Greater Dublin Area (GDA). The delivery of this significant project will support existing and future residential and commercial developments and is one of a number of water projects being delivered in the GDA. We are very grateful to all of the landowners who have played a major role in supporting this project, and their wider community."

The project was delivered by Roadbridge Ltd and GMC Utilities Group Ltd who worked closely and collaboratively with our employer representative Nicholas O'Dwyer Ltd. and site supervision team from Atkins Ltd.
