Manorhamilton To Receive Upgraded Water Supply

Construction News Image
Uisce Éireann crews are set to arrive in Manorhamilton next week to begin a major project to improve the local water supply.

The project involves replacing and upgrading 1.2 kilometers of old cast iron water mains between Lurganboy and Shanvaus. This work is part of Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme and is expected to be completed by spring 2025.

The upgrade will not only enhance the reliability of the water supply for homes and businesses in Manorhamilton but will also eliminate water leakage into the ground, reducing waste and improving overall water efficiency.

Patricia Lowry of Uisce Éireann expressed her enthusiasm for delivering this project to the Manorhamilton community. The upgraded water infrastructure will provide residents and businesses with a more dependable and sustainable water supply.

Lowry continued: "This work will bring a range of benefits for our customers in the area including reliability of supply and improved water quality. It will also help us achieve our 2030 goal of a national leakage rate of 25%. The National Leakage Reduction team has made great strides since 2018, when the leakage rate stood at 46%."

Crews will be working along the L-2136 Lurganboy (Church of Ireland junction) to Shanvaus/Pollboy (N16 Junction). Areas of work will be limited to short sections to minimise impact and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned interruptions.

To progress these important works, a road closure will be in place along the L-4135 from Wednesday, 6 November until 31 January next. The community can be assured that local and emergency traffic will be maintained to properties along the route at all times. Uisce Éireann can confirm that the L-4135 will be reopened during the Christmas holiday period with all traffic management removed during this time.

Farrans Construction is carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann with the project expected to be complete by the end of spring 2025.

The Uisce Éireann Customer Contact Centre, open 24/7 on freephone 1800 278 278, is available to answer any queries.
