Komatsu Forest Harvester And Forwarder Upgrades Announced

Construction News Image
Komatsu has put a new head on to their trusty C124 harvester's shoulders.

Said by Komatsu to be 'a well-deserved model year upgrade', a new valve block and new hydraulics design for the feeding system are some of the improvements that customers can expect. Prototype customer trials were reported to be ‘very positive’ revealing higher productivity, a better user experience, better running, with fast and efficient feeding.

Most important improvement is the C124's new valve bank, similar to that developed for the C164 and C144 models. Results are: component coordination with the base machine's valve banks for crane and chassis; longer service life than before; an improved wear pattern that increases the reliability of the harvester head and contributes to more uptime and reduced repair costs; lower energy losses and fuel savings.

According to McHale area sales manager, Pat Egan: "The new feed system is fitted with high-flow motors that are more efficient than the previous ones, thereby reducing energy losses and enhancing head performance."

According to Egan: "The new design improves the stem holding when felling, as it ensures that the feeding wheels have a maximum grip of the stem. With the smaller feed motor option, the feed speed is now 6,5 m/s."

Other upgrades within the Komatsu forestry range sees their 895 Forwarder offered with an all-new 205F crane option to handle larger grapples. Developed with a focus on increased productivity in final cutting and plantation forestry, the new option 205F crane has a lifting torque of 205 kNm and a slewing torque of 51.9, kNm.

Also new on the 895 Forwarder is a redesigned load space that includes a full-width gate and bunks with telescopic function. In conjunction, a new grapple, model G88H, and new rotator are also presented.

Available now, the new enhancements are said by their distributor in Ireland, McHale Plant Sales as "upgrades that will contribute immeasurably to the working performance of the Komatsu forest equipment concerned".
