Residential Construction Booms In Ireland

The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage has announced a significant increase in residential construction starts in Ireland.

According to the monthly data released for August 2024, there were 2,264 homes commenced in that month alone. This represents a 76% increase compared to the same period in 2023.

Year-to-date, from January to August 2024, a total of 37,622 homes have been commenced. This equates to an average of 224 homes started per working day.

Over the past 12 months, from September 2023 to August 2024, there have been 49,107 units commenced, a 66% increase compared to the previous 12 months.

The full commencement data set, including breakdowns by local authority, is available on the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage website.

This surge in residential construction is a positive sign for the Irish housing market and economy. It indicates increased investment in housing development and a potential improvement in housing affordability.
