Farrans Wins Diversity And Inclusion Award

Northern Ireland's Farrans Construction has won the Diversity and Inclusion award at this year's Northumbrian Water's GEM awards.

"Everyone is welcome at Farrans", is the approach to diversity and inclusivity that the construction firm have built and work to maintain every day within the organisation.

Welcoming the award, Farrans said: "Our team on the design, supply and install of a new Bores Treatment Stream at Barsham Water Treatment Works (WTW) for Northumbrian Water is a perfect example of how we create the right culture of inclusivity for diversity of thought to thrive.

"Out of our small team of twelve people we have seven different cultural heritages and nationalities represented on site, including Syrian, Jordanian, Romanian and Nigerian.

"We identify and challenge any barriers to a role in civil engineering by having a wide pool of talent that we recruit from. For example we work with a number of organisations who place displaced talent and refugees, supporting them and their families to find a long term and permanent place within our family.

"The GEM awards are NWG's supplier recognition initiative designed to help create an environment where suppliers feel valued and are driven to deliver outstanding service to NWG.

"After receiving over 100 submissions across 12 award categories, which recognise the wide range of contributions our suppliers make across our business, the expert judging panel whittled these down to a shortlist of 56 impressive entries.

"Farrans was also shortlisted in the Rising Star category for our Apprentice Civil Engineer Rebecca Nakimera. Rebecca has been working as part of our Barsham team and has demonstrated that she is dynamic, motivated, hungry for knowledge and passionate about the future of the industry. She is a team player who loves having a positive impact in her local area through the delivery of critical infrastructure, spending time volunteering and inspiring the next generation. A true Rising Star."
