Works are to start to upgrade the Clonmel water supply.
Commenting on the benefits of this vital infrastructure for the community Diane Carroll, Project Manager, at Uisce Éireann, said: "We're delighted to begin the construction phase of this critical project for the people of Clonmel. The project will provide key additional strategic infrastructure to address problematic water quality and supply issues in the local community. This vital project will involve the upgrade of the Monroe Water Treatment Plant, upgrades to Rathronan Pumping Station and 15km of new strategic watermains ensuring the Monroe supply area and customers currently being supplied from Poulavanogue Water Treatment Plant will benefit from the security of supply of being connected to the Clonmel North Reservoir."
Works are set to begin with the installation of the watermain along the R689 Fethard Road and will progress over 18 months along Rathronan L-3279, Clashaniska L-3280, Northview Close, Priory Park Road, Thomas Street, Dillon Street and R688 Cashel Road. Regular updates will be issued on an ongoing basis. The local community will have seen work crews in the area undertaking site investigations ahead of the main construction delivery. These investigations will continue over the coming weeks. We thank road users and the community for their patience as we complete these underground investigations.
To deliver the works safely and efficiently, traffic management will be in place along the affected roads whilst the watermain installation works are on-going. The community can be assured that local and emergency access will be maintained at all times.
Shareridge is delivering the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann and the overall project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
